Getting Dirty at the Dust Hustle 

The team from Brisbane’s Ellaspede Motorcycles promote their signature event as, “Amusing and inappropriate motorcycle dirt track days! They're less serious, more fun, ride anything events that include everyone from new riders to ex-GP pros.”

The so-called ‘Inappropriate Dirt Crew’ encourage, “The most weird, wonderful and woefully unsuitable motorcycles in the best damn display of dirt and dust tomfoolery.”

Edition number 10 was held at the Qmoto Raceway near Boonah, west of the Gold Coast, and judging by the amount of happy and smiling participants on the day – it was a roaring success. 

Rider places were booked out well before the event, which was held in warm and sunny condition across three different tracks in the compound. 

As our good friends at Gasoline Alley H-D are sponsors we tagged along to provide some coverage.

There were several Harleys: Sportsters, Street 500s and Street Rod 750s all suitably kitted out for the event. To see some of the very skilful riders, like Bryan Farrow from Farrows Customs, getting fully crossed up on the motocross-style or grass tracks while churning up clouds of dust was truly spectacular.

Apart from a few delays around the lunch break the action kept on coming as the crowds made their way between the three tracks. 

There is no start or finishing lines or lap counts – just timed sessions at each track and riders join in or drop out as they please – many of whom were in fancy dress. There were a few crashes and offs, but most walked away. 

With overnight camping and a well-stocked bar also available afterwards it’s a really relaxed feel good social event – with motorcycles! What could be better.

Dust Hustle 11 is scheduled for October 9th at the Mick Doohan Raceway. According to Ellaspede, “Just over 140 lucky riders will sneak a spot for this event while thousands of spectators (literally thousands, we counted last year) will turn out to see some of the best value motorcycle entertainment. Never ridden on a pro track? Perfect, you’ll fit right in with this crowd!”
