The 2004 Voxan 1000 Café Racer was one of motorcycling's great French curiosities.
Built in Issoire by Voxan, founded in 1995, it used a distinctive 996cc liquid-cooled 72-degree DOHC V-twin producing around 100 horsepower through a six-speed gearbox.
Designed by Alain Chevallier, its unique styling, superb chassis and exclusivity earned it cult status despite the company's ongoing financial struggles.
I rode one in 2004 and it was quite impressive, Fast and ... French.
Today, Voxan still exists as a Venturi-owned engineering and technology brand, based in Monaco.
Rather than producing road-going motorcycles, it focuses on electric motorcycle technology and land-speed-record projects.
Its best-known machine is the Voxan Wattman, which, ridden by Max Biaggi, still holds the world electric motorcycle speed record at 456 km/h (283 mph).
The company has continued to support speed-record and research projects as recently as 2024.
